our guys night out has changed to friday nights. which makes no difference since i have work on saturday mornings anyways. just as always, every restaurant around here is packed to the max, except for bj's ever since yardhouse opened up. so we had no choice but to go to bj's. you cant pass up on its berry blast cider. its so good, a 5-year old kid can drink it and not know that it is alcoholic. we decide to challenge ellis to eat a large pizza and a family sized pizzookie. a pizzookie is basically a freshly baked cookie about 14 inches in diameter with 9 scoops of ice cream on top. so he goes for it but at the end barely finishes the pizzookie. did i mention it was family siZe?
saturday night comes along and for james holden i just had to stay for his entire set. knowing that it would end at about 5am, it would be the end of my partying days if i came home that time, so i had to stay over my friends house. it was a fun night, although james holden kept his set short like always. i could finally get a good nights sleep after a true night of partying.
next day, we woke up at 230pm and went to morels at the grove. i had been anticipating to go to this restaurant more and more everytime i walk by it. the atmosphere is great, and outdoor canopy seating is a must. eating there gave me a sense of an italian cafe if you took out the crowd of busy tourists. couple yards away you have the dancing waterfalls in the background, something you see in every piazza of an italian city. the food there i expected to be better since it is rated in the zagat reviews. although i really wanted to try out their seafood, the french selections did not impress me. its something about french and their food. for example, if you think of mexican food, you think of burritos, tortillas, beans, etc, and for italian food, you think of pasta, lasagna, pizza etc. but for french food what are you supposed to have in mind? i never got that one. so, i ordered steak since the reviews recommended it. the steak was better than any ordinary chain restaurants that you see on restaurant row with reasonable prices. for most part, this restaurant is the best that you can find at the grove. i would definitely come back just to chill and relax.
after that 4pm breakfast, we went and saw united 93. i havent even heard of that movie until i saw it on the marquee. i guess ever since i started to work, the television doesnt exist in my life anymore. the movie focused on the 9 /11 attacks but concentrates on flight 93 where one of the planes crashed on the pennsylvanian field. it gives us the scenario of how the people inside might have resisted against the terrorists and helped keep the plane from reaching its final destination at the white house. but whatever happened, after watching the movie, i can clearly imagine myself on that same plane. everyone was pretty much speechless walking out of the theater.
this weekend felt like it went by in a blink. it was restless, but fun. the more fun you have on a weekend, the faster it goes :(
