It's 4:15PM i just got home from the Ironman competition in redondo beach. The weirdest thing happened. I got there at 10:30am, got my ticket and waited patiently among huge bodybuilders for the doors to open. I dressed casually in a short-sleeved collared shirt and jeans when a man walked in front of me once, glanced at me briefly and then walked back a second time attempted to say something. He was in his late 50's with hair to his shoulders hauling a tote. He said hi. I looked at him in confusion. He asked me how long i have been working out, so i answered, "about 3 years". He complimented about my stature and build and proceeded to ask if i considered competing in the next show down in Anaheim. Although i do on planning to compete someday, i told him that I need about 1 - 2 years of work still. So then he inquired about my age, if i did steroids, ethnicity, height and weight and i replied. As I answered, he wrote all this info down on a 3 X 5 card. He told me that I have a good chance in the novice-heavyweight division. I found out later that he was a professional photographer for magazines such as Muscle & Fitness, Muscular Development and other magazines that focuses on the bodybuilding athletes who trained naturally. He then asked if he could take a couple shots for future reference and to send to magazine companies. He wanted to take a picture of me in my tank top, but i stubbornly refused. (Heck no, not in public. I would look like an idiot.) He understood and said if i decided to take on the job, i can name my price. He gave me his business card, shook my hand and entered the building. I don't plan on calling him back, but if he does have something for me to do, he could contact me.
The contest was awesome. Promoters outside the venue handed out free supplements so I took advantage of the situation. Girls dressed in form-fitting outfits are always a good site. I sat in the front-center balcony with unrestricted view of the stage. $10 with student discount is pretty good compared to paying $35 regular. I spent about 2.5 hours there and already knew in my mind who was going to win. No need to name names because you readers out there could probably care less.
